Welcome to the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation. We are a non-profit organization that coordinates the provision of free legal representation to low-income people through the generosity of attorneys in our community.
Become a Volunteer Lawyer
Most of our clients are served through one of our programs. However we often get calls from clients who have problems that just do not fit into the guidelines of those programs. We then try to place these cases directly with you our volunteers.
Here is an example of one of the cases currently available:
1. Disabled School Employee Told She Owes School System Over $21,000.00
DJ -- The client worked for a public school and was injured badly enough that she stopped working and expected to go on her disability pension. The City’s Pension Specialist instructed her use up her sick time first, and then to activate her disability pension when the sick leave ran out. She complied with these instructions, not knowing how much sick time she had remaining. In May 2008 she received an overpayment notice from the school system claiming she was overpaid for 13 pay periods for a total of $21,411.00. The notice does not give any other details regarding the overpayment, or offer any means to challenge or appeal the determination. Will you help her sort this out?
To volunteer for the above described case or see all of the cases currently available, please go to our cases needing placement page. To sign up to be a regular Volunteer Lawyer and to make sure you are receiving out electronic newsletters please go to our
